  Every so often, a dog comes along that exceeds expectations and redefines what is possible in training and connection. As the owner and sole trainer at Rising Starr K9, I, Rick Pedersen, have had the privilege of working with many incredible dogs, but Sophie is truly one of a kind. Sophie, a stunning Golden Retriever, is one such dog. Her journey through our program at Rising Starr K9 is a testament to the power of dedication, trust, and the extraordinary bond between humans and their canine companions.

  Sophie has set a new standard for excellence—so much so that she now holds the distinction of being in the top tenth of one percent of all the dogs I’ve had the honor to train. That’s no small feat, considering the hundreds of remarkable dogs I’ve worked with.

  From the moment Sophie arrived at Rising Starr K9, I could see her incredible potential. As her trainer, I was excited to guide her through a journey that would showcase her intelligence and grace. Throughout her 4-week program, she embraced every challenge with grace and intelligence. My wife, Joane, played an integral role in ensuring Sophie received the well-rounded, family-oriented training experience that defines Rising Starr K9. Her training included advanced obedience, real-world applications, and confidence-building exercises that prepared her for any situation. Equally important, Sophie mastered the skills needed to be the best possible dog in a home and family environment. This holistic approach—focused on both public excellence and family harmony—sets our program apart from those that keep dogs locked in a kennel at a facility, missing the vital component of living as part of a family.

  Sophie’s journey wasn’t just about mastering commands and thriving in the most diverse environments. She accompanied me to the VA, hospitals, clinics, and local establishments, demonstrating impeccable manners and focus. Whether navigating bustling corridors or greeting strangers calmly, Sophie’s performance turned heads and warmed hearts.

  As her trainer, I can confidently say her transformation was nothing short of extraordinary. If dogs could wear crowns, Sophie’s would sparkle as brightly as her personality (although she’d likely trade it for a tasteful Elán scarf).

  As a testament to her poise, intelligence, and elegance, Sophie now holds the distinguished title of Ambassador and Official Dog of Elán, a global leader in luxury travel and client services.

  In this prestigious role, Sophie represents the sophistication, excellence, and trust that Elán embodies. By accompanying her family to high-profile events, greeting distinguished guests, or traveling the world, Sophie sets a new standard for canine ambassadors and brings warmth and personality to Elán’s vision.

  Her owners, Mike and Victoria Boomgarden, have every reason to be proud.   Elán’s story—from Victoria’s transition from a corporate powerhouse to co-creating a boutique brand—aligns beautifully with Sophie’s journey.   Their previous dog, Briggs, captured hearts during the pandemic, and the Boomgardens’ sharing of his adventures built deeper bonds with their clients. Now, Sophie carries that torch forward with her charm and impeccable training, embodying not just the Elán legacy but also the possibilities that arise from collaboration and love.

  Introducing Rising Starr K9’s Finishing School

  Inspired by Sophie’s success, I, Rick Pedersen, am thrilled to announce the launch of Rising Starr K9 Finishing School, a program designed for dogs with the potential to achieve greatness.

  This 4-week, live-in program provides elite-level training for dogs ready to shine in real-world scenarios. From advanced obedience to urban adaptability, Finishing School ensures every dog graduates with the confidence and skills to excel.

  Program Highlights:

  • Personalized, hands-on training in diverse environments.

  • Preparation for advanced certifications, including CGC Advanced and Urban.

  • Intensive, live-in experience with my wife Joane and me, where we focus on creating dogs that excel both in public and as cherished family members, ensuring every dog is treated like family and equipped for a balanced, fulfilling life.

  • Cost: $1,000 per week
